How to choose tires for engineering vehicles?
Release Time:2023-02-13

The tires of wheeled engineering vehicles are the main components of the walking system, which have the functions of carrying the weight of the vehicle, transmitting torque and braking force, and buffering the impact of driving. The working environment is gravel, sandstone or soft mud.

Tires have an important impact on the technical performance of engineering vehicles. It is not only related to driving safety, but also plays a key role in whether engineering vehicles can efficiently complete production tasks. Therefore, we should attach great importance to the selection, use, management and maintenance of engineering tires.

Tire selection should be considered from three aspects: the basic size, structure and tread pattern of the tire.

The load carrying capacity of the tire is the main basis for choosing the basic size of the tire. In the process of product design, first calculate the significant load capacity of a single tire based on the vehicle weight and operating load, and then combine the allowable load of the tire with consideration of control factors such as product structure and minimum ground clearance to preliminarily select appropriate specifications.

Generally speaking, the basic size and load range of the tire are determined at the early stage of design. For a certain vehicle, there are often many different tire/rim combinations that can meet the design requirements, so the designer should also refer to the traction performance, passing performance, cutting resistance, Select the appropriate structure and tread pattern for wear resistance.

At present, low-pressure pneumatic tires and wide-base tires are widely used for engineering vehicles, and solid tires with good durability are used for some lift vehicles, tractors, and flatbed vehicles. Low-pressure pneumatic tires have larger dimensions, lower ground pressure and rolling resistance, and have outstanding shock-absorbing and buffering properties when walking on uneven ground. The wide-base tire has a larger ground contact area, which reduces the ground specific pressure, is suitable for soft ground operations, and has better driving stability.

The coefficient of rolling resistance of solid tires is very small, with excellent driving safety performance, and strong puncture resistance, and the cost of use is much lower than that of pneumatic tires.
