Influence of solid tires on forklift braking performance
Release Time:2023-02-06

The braking performance of forklifts is directly related to the safety of life and property.

The braking performance depends on the braking force and the weight of the forklift itself, and the braking distance is used as the index of braking performance.

The braking distance refers to the driving distance from when the driver steps on the brake pedal to when the forklift comes to a complete stop. China's forklift standards have made corresponding regulations on the braking capacity of forklifts when they are running: when the forklift is running without load, the vehicle speed is 20km/H, and the braking distance is not greater than 8M; when the forklift is fully loaded, the vehicle speed is 10km/H, and the braking distance is not greater than 4M.

Under the same braking force, the deceleration time of a forklift with a large mass is longer, so the braking distance is longer. Since solid tires are heavier than pneumatic tires and the moment of inertia of the fork wheel is large, the braking performance is slightly worse.

The average braking distances of solid tire forklifts and pneumatic tire forklifts were determined to be 7.64M and 7.85M respectively when the vehicle speed was 20km/H.
