Why solid tires are not suitable for high-speed driving?
Release Time:2021-09-04

Compared with ordinary tires, the significant advantages of solid tires are long service life, low failure rate, and low deformation rate. You don't have to worry about air leaks/flat tires and abnormal tire pressure.

Despite the many advantages, the disadvantages of solid tires are also obvious.

First of all, because it is solid, its weight is much heavier than ordinary tires, which not only affects driving speed, but also greatly increases fuel consumption.

Secondly, because solid tires are harder than pneumatic tires, when passing through uneven roads, the vibration transmitted to the car will be very obvious, and the comfort of the vehicle will be greatly reduced. It is usually difficult for people to sit in such a car for a long time.

Finally, the most dangerous thing is that solid tires will produce obvious standing waves at high speeds. When the vehicle speed is very fast, the speed at which the tire returns to shape cannot keep up with the speed at which the tire rotates-this is the cause of standing waves. Standing waves will cause serious friction inside the tire, which will cause the tire temperature to rise rapidly. High temperature and deformation will separate the structural layers of the tire and eventually cause the tire to blow out. Generally speaking, solid tires are more prone to standing waves than traditional pneumatic tires.

Therefore, solid tires must be driven at a low speed during use to ensure safety.
